This print is inspired by one of my favorite moments from Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi's iconic greeting, "Hello there." As a longtime fan of the series, I've always enjoyed how memorable scenes from the films continue to evolve into shared jokes that connect generations of fans. The composition also pays homage to Shepard Fairey's Obey imagery, borrowing the bold, graphic language of propaganda posters to playfully elevate General Grievous into an unlikely icon.
I imagined General Grievous as an ideal lithographer—his four arms making him perfectly suited to the demanding, hands-on process of printmaking. At the same time, the piece nods to the long-running joke that, despite his intimidating appearance, Grievous is just as well known for retreating from battles as he is for fighting them.
Blending references to Star Wars, print history, and popular culture, this work celebrates the humor of fandom while exploring how familiar images are continually reinterpreted. Like the films themselves, the meme has endured because it is endlessly repeated, reshared, and reimagined, creating a visual language that fans instantly recognize and enjoy.
