Printmaking has long served as a powerful vehicle for protest, giving artists the ability to reproduce and distribute images that challenge systems of power. This work continues that tradition by responding to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the ongoing struggle for bodily autonomy and consent. While legal rights may change, the fight for women to have full authority over their own bodies remains unresolved.
Through the language of print, I examine how consent is not simply a personal issue, but a political one. The piece reflects the frustration of seeing rights that many believed were secure become uncertain, reminding us that progress is never guaranteed. By using a medium historically rooted in activism and public discourse, I hope to create a work that encourages conversation, solidarity, and resistance.
For me, this print is both a personal response and a broader statement about the importance of protecting autonomy, amplifying women's voices, and recognizing that the fight for equality continues.
This print is made by first taking a digital drawing composed of hand drawn and found elements, and then laser engraving them into wood which then is turned into a hand printed relief print. Check out my instagram to see some of the process!
